The new requirement is that all individuals with significant control (PSCs) and directors must verify their identity with Companies House. This became a legal requirement on November 18, 2025, and while it marks the start of a 12-month transition period, existing and new PSCs must provide their personal verification code to Companies House within their specific due date, which varies depending on their circumstances. This is being phased in to reduce fraud and improve the accuracy of the register.

Key changes

  • Mandatory verification: All current and new company directors and PSCs must verify their identity with Companies House.
  • Transition period: The requirement started on November 18, 2025, and there is a 12-month period for everyone to complete the verification by their individual due dates.
  • Providing the code: Once verified, you will need to provide your personal verification code to Companies House through the online service to have it linked to your PSC role.
  • Deadlines: Your specific deadline for providing the code depends on whether you were registered before November 18, 2025, or are also a director.
  • Changes to PSC information: Any changes to a PSC’s details must be reported to Companies House within 14 days of the change being confirmed.

How to verify your identity

When you need to provide identity verification details

Every PSC has a 14 day period during which they must provide their Companies House personal code and verification statement.

The dates of your 14 day period depend on whether:

  • you were registered with Companies House before 18 November 2025
  • you’re also a director of this company

Check the dates of your 14 day period by following this link and selecting ‘Start’ and signing in to this service.
