Companies House ID Checks – What you Need to Know Before November 2025

Following on from our blog in April, we can now confirm that Companies House has announced that identity verification will be required from 18 November 2025 for all company directors and PSCs (Person with Significant Control). 

You may have received an email from Companies House about this – and no, unfortunately, it’s not spam!

In practical terms, here’s what it means:

• You will need to use your GOV.UK One Login to verify your identity and get your code before your next confirmation statement is due after 18 November.
• This will need to be done for each company you are a director of.
• The process requires photo ID, so you’ll need your passport handy. The quickest way to complete the check is via the app, so have your phone to hand too.
• If you are a PSC, adding new directors to an existing company, or incorporating a new company from 18 November, you will also need to complete the identity verification process.

If we do any of this work for you, we are registered and have attended the relevant training to complete the process on your behalf.  There will be a one-off cost for this service, and we will need you to provide the necessary ID if we don’t already hold suitable documentation.

It may feel like more paperwork, but the good news is that this is just a one-off process.
